This probably won't happen as long as we have a wild card system. It's going to be difficult for either the Rays or Yankees to finish with around 100 wins and not win the division, but they will end up making the playoffs. The Red Sox could end up with 90+ or even around 95 wins and not make the playoffs, but it's highly unlikely they'll end up with close to 100 this year.

I was always fascinated with this kind of thing once I learned about the '80 O's. I really love the 2001 A's... won 102 games, but were 14 games back.
ReplyDeleteI've always been fascinated about this sort of stuff too. I remember the Indians won 90 games in 2000 and missed the playoffs, meanwhile the Yankees only won 87 games and actually went on the win the World Series. Go figure...
